MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit)
The largest packet size a network connection sends in a single transmission, typically 1500 bytes on most home connections.
An incorrectly configured MTU, more common on certain fiber and PPPoE-based connections, can cause intermittent stalls or dropped packets. Most connections work fine at the standard default, but matching your ISP's specified value can resolve otherwise puzzling connectivity issues.
