EPG Explained: What the Program Guide Actually Does

بقلم Elena Voss3 أغسطس 20261 دقيقة قراءة

An EPG — electronic program guide — is the schedule grid showing what's currently playing and what's coming up next on each channel. It's a separate data source from the channel stream itself.

How EPG data reaches your player app

Most player apps accept an EPG URL alongside your playlist URL. This is usually an XMLTV formatted file listing program schedules for each channel over the coming days.

Why some player apps show no EPG data

  • The EPG URL wasn't entered separately from the playlist URL.
  • The app doesn't support EPG display for that channel format.
  • The EPG source hasn't refreshed recently.

Tip

If your channel list loads but the guide is empty, double-check your player app has a separate EPG URL field — it's easy to miss during setup.
